At the May meeting of the ForWind Board of Directors, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Vincent Oettel was accepted as a new member of ForWind. Oettel has been Professor of Concrete Structures at Leibniz Universität Hannover since 2021. He is Managing Director of the Institute of Concrete and Masonry Structures (IfMa) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Test Center for Load-bearing Structures Hanover (TTH).

Vincent Oettel’s research focuses on sustainable, modular and automated construction. This comes into play in the construction of the latest generation of wind turbines when it comes to aspects of durability and resource-saving design with a low carbon footprint. However, new materials and improved calculation methods can also prevent demolition and enable upgrades for existing wind turbines. Oettel investigated the behavior of steel fiber reinforced concrete beams under torsional stress and developed a new approach to calculation, which is now part of the guideline for steel fiber reinforced concrete. In the future, research will also be conducted into the use of high-performance materials for the production of extremely thin-walled, material-optimized, resource-efficient and durable structures with a very long service life.

The Institute of Concrete and Masonry Structures at Leibniz Universität Hannover has long been involved in projects in which ForWind researchers also play a significant role, including through its participation in the Collaborative Research Center 1463 Offshore Megastructures.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Vincent Oettel completed his doctorate at the TU Braunschweig, where he later worked for several years as a senior engineer in the field of solid construction.
